Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General (DG) Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam has voiced concern over the deaths of at least 15 Bangladeshis in the border in the first five months of the current year.
He also spoke of taking joint steps with Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in order to curb border killings.
But Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Rajni Kant Mishra termed the border killings “unfortunate deaths”.
Mishra said BSF gives top priority on life. Lethal weapons are not being used from their side and they use firearms in the rarest situations to protect themselves, not to target anyone. But sometimes stray incidents are seen to take place unexpectedly which are very few.
The two heads from the respective sides disclosed their views on the border killings at DG-level border conference held at Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in the city on Saturday.
A 19-member host team led by BGB DG Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam took part in the conference where a 10-member Indian delegation led by the BSF DG attended.
